How to create a network place

If you travel a lot and need to access some files in the office using FTP, Web Sharing or VPN remotely, you can use the Add Network Place Wizard to create shortcuts to shared folders and resources on the network or on Web, FTP or VPN servers. To do this follow these steps.

1. On the computer you want to access the remote server, click Start>My Network Places, Right-click on the Properties of My Network Places.

2. Select Add a network place. Click Next in Welcome to the Network Place Wizard.

3. Select Choose another network location and click Next.

4. Type Internet or network address under what is this network address, for example, \\chicagotech\ms-mvps. Click Next to continue.

5. Type a name for the network place. Click Next to continue and then Finish. Now you should have a new network place display in the My Network Places.
