Case Study – Nslookup can't find server name for address x.x.x.x and Default Server:  UnKnown

Situation: When the workstation can’t join the domain, we use nslookup to find the status of the DNS. The nslookup displays this message: “DNS request timed out. Timeout was 2 seconds.

*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.10.1: Timed out

Default Server:  UnKnown

Address:  4.2.2.1

Troubleshooting: The workstation can ping another computer’s FQDN but none of computers can ping the computer’s FQDN.

Resolution: add the A record of the computer in the DNS. Then any computers can ping its FQDN.
