Case Study - Can't print from XP to Server 2000

Situation: This is windows server 2000 domain network with all XP clients. One HP Inkjet 2250 printer is shared on one of windows server 2000. The shared printer has been working fine for many years. Now, they can't print to this printer from the clients and server.

Troubleshooting: 1. When sending a print job from a client to the print, the job never appears in the printer manager.

2. if printing from the server, the job appears in the printer manager for 2 or 3 second and then disappears.

3. Re-installing the new printer driver doesn't help.

4. Deleting and re-adding the printer doesn't fix the problem.

Resolution: Add the printer to local port (LTP1) and create another new port like this \\chicagotech\hp2250 to replace the local printer.
