Case Study - The remote session was disconnected because another user has connected to the session

Situation: The client followed the How to Install and Configure TS Licensing to install 10 Terminal Services CALs on a Windows Server 2003.

Problem: When testing the TS using administrator to logon, the first logon received "The remote session was disconnected because another user has connected to the session" message after the second logon.

Troubleshooting: 1. They did install Terminal Services mode correctly.

2. If they logon different username, they didn't receive that message.

3. We found that "The Restrict each user to one session" is enabled (See picture).

Resolution: Re-set "The Restrict each user to one session" to No. To do this, go to Administrative Tools>Terminal Services Configuration>Server Settings, double-click "The Restrict each user to one session" and select No.
