How do I know if I logon domain or not  - Step by step with screenshots

When the Domain Controller is down, the domain network computer may still be able to login by using cached credentials. So you may wonder how I know I login the domain or not.

Here are some options:

1. Use nltest command. You can check this post for more details: How can I know which DC I am logging on?

If the DC is not available, you get this this error;

nltest /dsgetdc:chicagotech.local

Getting DC name failed: Status = 1355 0x54b ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN

2. In the Security of folder, you don't see the domain. You see the computer only.

Resolution: make sure the workstation has correct DNS settings and nslookup hasn't error.

2. Rejoin the computer to the domain.
