How to setup Outlook Express using ISP SMTP Server

In the fight against spam, more and more Internet service providers require their subscribers to send mail through the ISP's own SMTP servers. When you setup POP email software, you may be required to use ISP SMTP instead of your email service SMTP Server. In this example, we will setup yahoo email account using AT&T SMTP server.

1. Open Microsoft Outlook Express.
2. Go to 'Tools' --> 'Account Settings' --> E-Mail tab. Highlight yahoo email profile and click on the 'Properties' button.

3. Click Service tab.

4. In the Server Information section:
Enter yahoo POP3 server name, pop.mail.yahoo.com in Incoming Mail (POP3 or IMAP) Server
Enter smtp.att.yahoo.com (not smtp.mail.yahoo.com) in Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server

5. In the Incoming Mail Server session:
Enter your yahoo account name, for example blin2000 in Account name
Enter your email password in Password.
Check Remember password box.

6. Check My server requires authentication and then click the 'More Settings' button.

7. Check Log on using box and enter your AT&T email address. Note: if you enter the account name only without whole email address, it may not work. Enter AT&T email password and check Remember password.

8. Click OK to save the settings and test it.

Verizon outgoing.verizon.net
SBC
Your SMTP settings will vary based on your account setup. Choose the SMTP setting that corresponds to the email address most like the one provided to you by your ISP.
