How to create a group policy to run logon and logoff script

This example is based on local policy. You may do the same on a domain policy. Unlike Startup and Shutdown policy, logon and logoff policy applies to a user level when the user logon or logoff.

1. Before creating the group policy, create a script using Notepad and save it in C:\windows\system32\grouppolicy\user\script>logon or logoff folder.

2. Run gpedit.msc.

3. Expand the user Configuration>Windows Settings>Script (Logon/Logoff).

4. Double click on Logon or Logoff.

5. Click Show Files which should expand to the Logon or Logoff folder.

6. Select the script and click OK to save the settings.
