How to troubleshoot NDRs with 5.7.1 and 5.7.3 error codes

Cases:

Situation 1: one of our clients received NDRs with 5.7.1 and they use Exchange 2003.

Problem: After checked the relay settings, we found the subnet mask didn’t match. Their network mask was 255.0.0.0 while the mask of relay settings was 255.255.255.0.

Situation 2: Another client receive the same error after upgraded from Exchange 2000 to 2003.

Problem: the relay settings didn’t give the subnet.

Note: you should restart SMTP after making any relay settings change.
