How to share the Root Drive in Vista

By design, Vista blocks accessing Administrative Shares using $. To share the root of a drive, please follow these steps:

1.       Open Windows explorer.

2.       Right-click the drive you want to share, and then click Share. Windows Vista displays the properties for the drive with the Sharing tab selected.

3.       Click Advanced Sharing.

4.       In the Advanced Sharing dialog box, click Share this folder and specify the share name, permissions, and other settings as needed.

Note: By default, the system only assigns read only permission to everyone when you share a folder or drive. Therefore, you may receive Access denied when you copy a file to the shared folder or drive. Also you may need to double check the permissions in the Security tab.
