Can’t access remote resources via XP VPN host

Situation: A small office setup a XP as VPN host using Incoming Connection. The users can establish the VPN from home and ping the XP. However, he can’t ping other remote computers in the office.

Troubleshooting:

1. The IP range in office is 192.168.254/24 and the computer at home is 192.168.0.0/24. So, that is OK.
2. The VPN server IP is 192.168.254.100 and the VPN client IP is 192.168.254.101. That looks good too.
3. Allow callers to access my local area network is enabled. However, ipconfig /all displays IP Routing Enabled is No.

Analysis: by default, when Allow callers to access my local area network is enabled, IP routing should be enabled too. However, in this case, it might not enable for some reasons or some one might modify the IP routing.

Resolution: enable IP routing.
