The File Server Migration Toolkit (FSMT) helps you copy files and folders
from servers running Windows 2000 Server or Windows NT Server 4.0
operating systems to a server running Windows Server 2003 operating systems
or Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003. Whether you plan to consolidate
multiple file servers or migrate data from one file server to another, the
File Server Migration Toolkit is designed to simplify the process of copying
data and minimize the impact of the consolidation or migration on end users.
File Server Migration Wizard Requirements:
The source file servers and target file servers that you specify in the
File Server Migration Wizard must meet the following requirements:
- Source file servers must run Windows NT Server 4.0, the Windows 2000
Server family, or the Windows Server 2003 family.
- Target file servers must run operating systems in the Windows Server
2003 family or the Windows Storage Server 2003 family.
you can migrate data from a file server in one domain to a file server in
another domain in the same forest. You can also migrate data from a file
server in one forest to a file server in another forest if cross-forest
trusts are in place so that you can be a member of the local Administrators
group on the source and target file servers.
