Case Study - Upgrade Windows 2000 DC to Windows 2003 DC

Analysis: Most errors we receive are related to FRS. So, we focus on FRS. Based on the article Event ID 13552, the problem may cause by

1. An invalid root path – check that and it is OK.

2. A missing directory - check that and it is OK.

3. A missing disk volume - check that and it is OK.

4. A file system on the volume that does not support NTFS - check that and it is OK.

5. The staging area is full – that is the problem. The ms-mvps server has just 100 MB.

Solution: After we follow this troubleshooting to move staging folder to another drive that has over 10 GB free space, we don’t have Event ID 13552 and 13555. But we still get Event ID 13568.

Following this article, we increase the USN journal size. Then the FRS starts to work and sysvol folders and files are copied from ms-mvps to chicagotech., and no more errors.
