NetMeeting Features

You can use NetMeeting to call people at other computers over a local area network (LAN), over the Internet, over a standard telephone line (using a modem), over a serial (null modem) cable. You can download NetMeeting in Microsoft web site.

NetMeeting cannot connect to another party in an audio video call

If you cannot connect to another party in an audio video call it may be because you or the other party has security settings that allow data only calls. In the Tools menu, Options item Security tab: Make sure that the settings in the Security section about requiring Incoming Calls and Outgoing Calls to be secure are unchecked - making or receiving a "secure" call implies that it will be a data only call.

NetMeeting and ICS are not fully compatible with each other.

After installing MS ICS on Win2K, many people reported that NetMeeting does not work any more. We found that NetMeeting and ICS are not fully compatible with each other.

NetMeeting connection problems

Sometimes, you can connect to a home/work laptop using NetMeeting but not in the other times. The problem is if you logon the home network with domain, you should just type your logon name and password only (no domain). Or if the laptop connects to the domain, you should need to type the domain name in the logon screen.

Symptom: You get access denied or user name and password are incorrect message when trying to logon a remote computer by using NetMeeting even you type the correct name and password. Resolution: the remote computer keyboard may be Caps locked.

Establishing a NetMeeting Connection with a Firewall

When you use NetMeeting to call other users over the Internet, several IP ports are required to establish the outbound connection. To enable NetMeeting multipoint data conferencing—program sharing, Whiteboard, Chat, file transfer, and directory access—your firewall only needs to pass through primary TCP connections on assigned ports, which are ports 389, 522, 1503, 1720, and 1731.

NetMeeting audio and video features require secondary TCP and UDP connections on dynamically assigned port, which are  ports 1024-65535.
